Iwi Kai Boxes

When the country went into lockdown in March of 2020, Joseph wanting to ensure his sisters living in the Marlborough Sounds and needing to remain isolated from the general populous was deeply concerned how they would get groceries.

He approached a restaurant wholesaler in Auckland who was in the process of laying off staff and closing down his entire operation when Joseph asked him to keep his lights on for a further 48 hours hoping this operations supply chain networks and logistics infrastructure could be re-purposed to pack and deliver Kai-boxes to whānau across the country on behalf of their Iwi. Contacting his Ngāti Tama Iwi chair and sharing his concerns saw Ngāti Tama become Aunty Lou’s Kitchens (then Haumi-e) first client placing an order to send Kai boxes to all their members – Joseph’s whanau included. Aunty Lou’s Kitchen and Foodchain have been busy each lockdown sending/trucking Kai from as far south as Invercargill to Kaitaia in the Far North for 30+ Iwi.

If you want to enquire how your Iwi’s buying power can secure fresh quality cuts of protein for you at a lot less than what you would pay at the supermarket, then email Joseph below.
